A party of six guests checks into the Seaside Cove Bed & Breakfast, but one checks out early. Dead.
The Chief of Police asks Seaside Cove B&B owner Rick Atwood to help solve the murder of Snappy Welles, a man Rick viewed as a born troublemaker. Rick quickly discovers that Snappy’s friends were far from friends. And all had a reason to kill him.
While Rick investigates with the police, his daughter Alex launches a shadow investigation. At thirteen going on thirty, Alex is gung ho to find the killer first. Rick wishes Alex would keep her nose out of police business, but her meddling is getting results. When everyone’s secrets and lies unravel, Rick must choose between bringing a killer to justice and saving his family.

Dead Men Need No Reservations by Terry Ambrose lets us see how much things changed from the last book to this one. The big meaning of this is that Marquette is in her last few weeks of being pregnant.

Is Alex going to let the investigation go to her dad and Adam?

Rick, Alex, and Marquette are a happy small family of just three, but that will soon change. Alex is quite excited about being an older sister too, what she hopes to be, a baby brother, but who knows? Rick and Marquette are happy about how Alex has been helping out and her excitement about being a big sister. These three are working like a well-oiled machine, especially with Alex being able to step in and help Markie cook some meals so that she can rest. Well, that is when Alex isn’t at school or doing homework. I love this family unit, as it seems like they are finally in a good place as a cute family that is expanding with another addition to make them a family of four.

The Victim

Dead Men Need No Reservations CR

Snappy Welles comes to Seaside Cove, California, with his five friends to make a great vacation out of this trip. This isn’t like a normal friendship between these six people, and it won’t be easy for Rick and Marquette to keep things civil between them. Out of the five of his so-called friends, who has the best motive to kill him? See, Snappy Welles, isn’t the nicest of people and was a hard person to get to know enough to like him. He did a lot to piss off not only his friends while they were in Seaside Cove but also the locals. I got the person who did it right but didn’t know why that person did it until the wrap-up.

Five Stars

I am giving Dead Men Need No Reservations by Terry Ambrose five stars and recommend it to anyone that loves a good cozy mystery. Mr. Ambrose has a fantastic way of storytelling that makes you get sucked into the events within the story that sometimes you forget that you aren’t there. I always have a fun time diving into one of these tales, and seeing Alex’s point of view is also great.

Alex is a stubborn teenage girl who knows what she wants: to solve mysteries while writing a great article to go with said mystery. Or, you know, to solve the mystery. Alex is still reeling from what happened in the last book, so she isn’t in as much, but I love the parts where she is and how she ends up helping the two of them out. Rick and Alex Atwood are Police Chief Adam Cunningham’s biggest helpers in solving crimes.
